People should know by now who the key players for the Steelers are but, if you don’t, here’s who you need to be keeping an eye out for in the team’s Week 1 trip to Denver to play Peyton Manning and the Broncos.
Pittsburgh doesn’t have to wait long for their first real test as they open with a Sunday Night matchup with Denver.
Looking over the NFL odds, you’ll find the Steelers priced as one-point underdogs for this trip.
To win, Pittsburgh will call on Ben Roethlisberger to carry most of the load, especially with Rashard Mendenhall injured. Isaac Redman is expected to take over the role of the starting running back for now.
Roethlisberger is as steady as they come, possessing an accurate arm and a fantastic ability to escape pressure and make plays with his legs. Rather impressive for such a big guy.
The passing game should be rocking and rolling this season. Antonio Brown’s emergence, alongside the immensely dangerous big-play ability of Mike Wallace, has given the Steelers two great playmakers for Roethlisberger to put his faith in.
Brown came out of nowhere to log over 1,000 yards receiving last season, though he only managed to get into the endzone twice. Expect a dramatic rise to that number this year.
Key players to watch on this vaunted Pittsburgh defense include Troy Polamalu and James Harrison.
Harrison is a feared linebacker who’s not afraid to lay a huge hit, while Polamalu possesses incredible instincts in the secondary. The shaggy-haired defender makes big play after play and opposing quarterbacks are always wary of where Polamalu is on the field.
What we know is these important Steelers players need to all step up for the team to open the season with a win against a tough Broncos team.
Will Big Ben be up to the challenge?
